1. Timing of recovery: Files can be recovered if they are deleted, damaged for formatted by mistake, as long as the storage media is intact.
2. Recovery method: Electronic records can be recovered using R-studio, FinalData, Unstoppable Copier, PC-3000, Forensic Talon, CD Recovery Toolbox, and disc scratch remover; verification is performed again after the recovery.
3. Recovery tools:
I. Tools for recovering electronic records:
i. R-studio: Allows data recovery over a local station or network, and is capable of restoring files that are deleted by mistake, infected with virus, re-formatted, or lost to sector damage.
ii. FinalData: Capable of restoring data that has been deleted from the Recycle bin.
iii. Unstoppable Copier: Capable of restoring corrupt files. If the program encounters a sector that is unreadable, it will try repeatedly to repair the file or fill with blank characters if it cannot be recovered.
II. Hard disk recovery tools:
i. PC-3000: recovers data from all models of IDE hard disks; it utilizes the built-in software inside each hard disk to alter and recover data.
ii. Forensic Talon: A handheld hard disk replicator that replicates hard disk data for forensic purposes.
III. Disc recovery tools:
i. CD Recovery Toolbox: Capable of treating "mechanical damages" done to discs, such as scratches, cracks, and smudges that cause read errors.
ii. Disc scratch remover: Mainly removes fungus, smudges, and scratches from disc surface.
