Media Migration

1. Timing of migration: If a particular type of storage media becomes obsolete, a media migration must be performed so that the electronic records may continue to be preserved.

2. Migration scope: CD,VHS/Beta/Betacam, Vinyl,Tape , Microfilm , 3.5-inch floppy , Slide, Undeveloped film.

3. Media migration method:

 I. The migration process: Load in the media that needs to be migrated; calculate the hash code of all files stored in the media; signify and encapsulate using the certificate issued by the government institution to produce a media encapsulation file; this encapsulation file is then copied onto the migrated media.

II. Verification and validation process: Load in the migrated media and recalculate the hash code of each file; compare to verify if they are the same as the hash codes contained in the media encapsulation file, thereby ensuring consistency before and after the migration.

III. The purpose of the media encapsulation file: The media encapsulation file is used to determine whether the file stored in the media has been altered during the migration. This is to ensure integrity in the media and file stored on site, and facilitate listing and checking afterwards.
