Article 1 of the Archives Act (the Act) declares that the Act was enacted to promote public awareness and use of archives, and to optimize the functions of the archives. Article 11 of the Act stipulates that permanent records shall be transferred to the central archives authority-in-charge. Article 22 of the Act stipulates that national archives shall be accessed for utilization no later than 30 years after creation. The National Archives Administration (NAA) is the central competent authority of archives, and is responsible for the collection, transfer, organization and preservation of national archives, planning of other management operations and related facilities, as well as receiving gifts, safekeeping and procurement of precious archives from individuals or organizations.

     In order to implement the purpose of the Act, we collect the national archives with long term preservation value with evaluation and selection procedure to enrich our collection gradually since preparatory period. Besides the national archives storehouse, collection sites in Shih-Lin, which is completed and opened in October, 95 RE (Republic Era) and in Guang-Fu, which is completed and opened in May, 99 RE are added to store the archives colleted to ensure the archives with long term preservation value to be properly preserved and to promote an open application.

 

In order to restore the truth of the historical events, experts and scholars from different fields are recruited to visit and review on site and select archives of major political events such as 228 Incident, Kaohsiung Incident and other major political events since 89 RE. Archives with long term preservation value are collected and transferred gradually this year. The new coming archives collection from April, 100 RE to the end of June, 100 RE is described below:
